Colorado Convention Center Address:
700 14th St.Denver, CO 80202
The Big Blue Bear was installed as part of Denver Office of Cultural Affairs’ Public Art Program. After much work on a design, the resulting miniature that the artist created emerged a brilliant, startling blue. The color delighted the artist and from that moment on, “the bear had to be blue.”
The Bear’s creator, Lawrence Argent, thought about the Colorado imagery of the Rockies and the Flatirons. He “thought about what it was like to be a resident here and the journey one takes down either corridor (14th and Speer) and when one notices there is a convention occurring.” He was “interested in what might be going on in there the exchange of information, ideas and ideologies. But there was never any indication of what was going on in there” and from a photo he had seen in a newspaper the idea of a bear looking into the Colorado Convention Center was born.
